Fen Tigers Sign New Reserve

Following the loss of Sam Bebee and Robert Parker, both injured at Kings Lynn last Wednesday, to add to the already injured Luke Ruddick, ‘KJM’ Fen Tigers promoter Kevin Jolly has moved quickly to sign up Chris Widman who became available yesterday following a double team change at Stoke.

26 year old Leicester born Widman has plenty of National League experience with Stoke, Kings Lynn, Belle Vue and Isle of Wight amongst others but has had a difficult start to his 2016 season resulting in him being released by Stoke.

Jolly though feels he has signed a rider much better than his current 3.47 average and is looking forward to working with Widman, he said: “As soon as I saw Chris has been released I felt he was just the rider we had been looking for to give us some important stability at reserve with us suffering so much misfortune in those positions this season. His current average in no way reflects his ability and I am confident with our support and back up we can soon get him scoring to his true potential which in my opinion is as least two points above his current average. Chris will make his debut on Sunday against Birmingham and I am sure he will get a typical warm Mildenhall welcome from our supporters.

This has considerably improved our situation at reserve as with Rob back on Sunday, Luke and Sam on the road to recovery and our young Cubs improving week on week we will very shortly have some real strong competition for the reserve berths”

Battling Fen Tigers Just Fall Short in KOC Classic

A superb KO Cup tie between two well matched teams went down to the wire over this weekend’s two meetings.

Saturday evenings 1st leg at Arlington saw a spirited performance from the ‘KJM’ Fen Tigers at a track that is renowned as being a difficult place for visitors! Last season the Fen Tigers capitulated twice in deepest Sussex but this is a very different outfit and with everyone pulling together the team spirit shone through and kept the tie within their grasp.

A heat two win from 15 year old debutant Sam Bebee, after a nasty collision in the second running of the heat had left him and his bike decidedly second hand, was a sign of things to come and although the Fen Tigers managed just three heat winners they only conceded one 5-1 reversal and regularly tucked in for the minor places to hold a very strong Eastbourne line up, led by Elite League rider Adam Ellis, to a manageable twelve points.  Everyone contributed valuable points with top scorer Connor Mountain (10+1) leading the way and the unlucky Alfie Bowtell (6+1) suffering bike problems when well placed in heat eleven.
